I am a mixed media artist who primarily uses conceptual imagery to address social, political and environmental issues. In creating my art, I particularly draw inspiration from Renaissance paintings, Japanese sumi ink paintings and vintage propaganda posters. When not reading the news, watching documentaries or poring over history books, I am most often found playing in the mountains or desert. As a passionate outdoor enthusiast, my work is heavily influenced by my love for nature, particularly mountains and glaciers, and my nearly decade-long career as a climbing and backpacking guide in Alaska. Also, my professional experience as a scientist (in a former life) drives me to find creative ways to incorporate mathematical and scientific principles into my art. I have a MFA in Illustration, a PhD in Biochemistry and I currently live in Salt Lake City, UT.
